The Ministry of External Affairs is the central government authority of India, who is responsible for the management of the foreign affairs, MEA is also responsible and authenticates the documents issued from India. All types of documents (Personal, Educational and Commercial) are required the authentication (Stamp) from the MEA, during the process of document legalization.

What is MEA Attestation?

MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) attestation is the most valuable stamp on the documents which will only be done, once the requested documents have been validated and authenticated by the respective agencies in the state from where the certificate has been issued. In case of personal documents, the General Administration Department/ Home Department are the respective authorities. In case of educational documents, it must first attest from the HRD of the concerned state Union/Government Territory. MEA deals in anything related to foreign countries, so its mandate is for applicants who are required to authenticate their documents in/from India to prove the authenticity of the certificates/documents. The External Affairs Department in Delhi has been responsible for centralized attestation but now it’s decentralized. Documents need to be attested from the concerned home department prior to MEA attestation.
